Abstract: Introduction-The concept, tools and techniques of optimization are well known and established in many fields of business and engineering. However, there are still significant gaps in the application of optimization in specific disciplines such as retailing. Furthermore, there appears to be a high level of confusion about the term "demand chain optimization" within the retail community. Therefore, an appropriate topic for examination is the current state and future vision of optimization within the retailing industry. This white paper presents a hypothetical case that highlights opportunities and areas for demand chain optimization within a retail enviornment.
